Pia Lanzinger: »ARCHE ATLANTA«
Pia Lanzinger's »ARCHE ATLANTA« project was not based on a company's products, but on its workforce. Using the example of the firm ATLANTA Antriebssysteme, based in Bietigheim-Bissingen, she focused on the stories of migration told by workers at a ›typical‹ Swabian company that is also a global player. She revealed how immigration and emigration are not new phenomena. Some of the company's employees come from Swabian families who emigrated to far-flung parts of the world many generations ago, but who later decided to return to Germany. Others have ancestors who recently or long ago migrated to the region for a variety of reasons.
Pia Lanzinger used the biblical image of the Ark (ARCHE) to highlight how harmonious co-existence is not hampered by people's different backgrounds. Indeed, the workers at ATLANTA exemplify how they can form a forward-looking, highly productive group where everyone feels accepted.
Lanzinger worked with some of ATLANTA's staff to produce a live performance where the employees told their life stories – an inside portrait of a Swabian company.
The show was staged on 9th October at the Kronenzentrum Bietigheim-Bissingen. The accompanying exhibition at the Städtische Galerie Bietigheim-Bissingen showed a selection of Lanzinger's works and projects, along with an installation that included photographs of the staff members involved in the project and the stage set designed for the performance.
Born 1960, Pia Lanzinger uses her art to explore people's daily lives in today's world and looks for scope to be creative in areas that have previously been overlooked.
